To help our Marco Polo Travelers get into the island vibe, we’ve curated this short hit list of what to wear, sip, and stream on the Island of Enchantment this summer…

1. Classic Puerto Rican Shirts Redefined

One of Puerto Rico’s best-known designers for women, Stella Nolasco recently put her signature spin on the iconic island men’s shirt. Cut in luxe Italian linen and embellished with tonal embroidery, her guayaberas feel polished without trying too hard—ideal for dinners at Bahia Beach or evenings out in the city. Shop online if you want to shop before your visit or stop by her Santurce atelier when on the island.

2. Stylish Beachwear for All Ages

A renown local surf and beachwear label, Playero has been a style fixture for decades. Expect graphic tanks, retro trunks, and logo tees that hit that rare note between nostalgic and contemporary. Stock up on essentials at their Loíza Street shop near Ocean Park or at their newest location at The Mall of San Juan near SJU.

3. Iberian Bites from Panadería España

This family-run Isla Verde bakery—ten minutes from the airport—is a quiet classic. Pick up a jamón serrano and manchego cheese sandwich, a slice of tortilla española, or imported olives and conservas for your villa pantry. Make sure to grab a proper cortado before you go.

4. Flavorful Rums

Crafted with island-grown ingredients like ginger and passionfruit, small-batch Tres Clavos infused rums from San Juan Artisan Distillers are smooth enough to sip but built for cocktails. Stock up at specialty shops across the island, or visit their farm-to-glass distillery in Vega Alta.

5. Streaming Suggestions

Released in January 2025, Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos waxes nostalgic, weaving plena, salsa, and reggaetón and consequently garnering listeners of all ages across Puerto Rico and the United States. If the hit album has you curious for more, dive into classics Willie Colón & Rubén Blades’ seminal Siembra or any of the releases by Los Pleneros de la 21. Or for a more mellow vibe, take a listen to the eponymous 2022 album by Hermes Croatto, son of the late beloved musician Tony Croatto. There’s also his new single “Homenaje a César Concepción.”
